Color Play Friday - Pink Poppy

Hello Hon,

Happy Friday!  No, Happy Color Play Friday!

The week is over and the weekend is beginning.  A bit of exciting news is that I got my "Spoonflower Color Map"!  It's so awesome to see all those colors on that bright Kona White cotton.  Although I'm super excited about it, I haven't had a chance to sit with it.  I can't wait to examine all those colors, but I image I won't be able to play with it until after my birthday (the 8th! Like how I just through that in the post? Teehee).  Right now I have to get my fabric Woodland postcard swap finished, start on my ATC (Artist Trading Cards) swap and I generally sign up for our on-line quilting club's monthly swap.  Along with the Facebook lovers of Crafty Gemini (outside of the Crafty Gemini Quilt Club), they do a monthly swap as well.

For February the on-line quilt club did mini quilts (this time 12x12) that were based on the inspiration you felt about your swap partner.  I will show those next week on Thursday.  She found to cutest fabric for one side and then did an applique on the other side that will continue to inspire me for years to come.  But I don't want to post the one I made for her until after she has had a chance to see it.  I made it really personal, for her not me.  So I'll just wait and post them both together, that's easier.

I'm still looking for the perfect yellow to go in my Highlighter modern quilt, my first.  That's the only thing that was not included in the box (Quilty Box).  I guess I just need to suck it up and go with a nice Kona solid in Yellow.  I bought some more black for another project and just in case I want to make this one bigger.  Butttt..... a whole quilt with just solid colors, sigh.  Okay, I'm going to try it.  But I was really hoping to find some little print that would still be loud and pop but have a little design of some sort.  If that wasn't enough, I'm kind of nervous about using my first spool of Aurifil thread.  It feels like I should just use some of the cotton thread I already have and wait until I'm more experienced with modern quilting to use the coveted queen of threads.  I have never quilted negative space before, I'm more traditional.  But I am committed to trying new things, after all that's how things get to be your favorite, right?  I'm excited that the quilting does not look as difficult as some of the other ones I've drooled over; especially since I don't have a long arm.  I have a smaller home machine a Brother (Cindy Lou, she's so cute), an even smaller Janome (Baby), and an old Dressmaker (Big Bertha), and of course my serger (he is THE man, Ricardo).  I think I'll pull out the old Dressmaker instead of using my Brother anymore to do quilting.  Big Bertha is all muscle baby (metal).  I've already told dh I want to get a Juki 2010Q, you know, when I'm a big girl (in quilting skills, haha).

This week's photo was chosen by Lorinda over at Laurel, Poppy, and Pine.  I doubled check this time, lol.  She took the picture in her garden last summer, you are going to love it!  Enjoy.

Color Play Friday - Pink Poppy, along with my palette and wild bundle (I couldn't help myself):

I found the wild prints at the following places:

by Debi Hubbs
for Studio E

Vignette Collection by Laura Gunn
for Michael Miller Fabrics

Tonga Sunburst Collection
for Timeless Treasures

Small World Collection by Rae Hoekstra
for Cloud 9

from Hoffman Fabrics

Notice how I did not pick up any green this week.  Yet somehow, it managed to make an appearance anyway, lol.

You can see all my other CPF submissions here.  In order to create my color palette I used Moda Palette Builder 2.1.  I'll also be tagging mine on social media with #modapalettebuilder, per Moda's request, and honestly it's the least I can do to thank them for creating a great tool and allowing me to use it for free!

That's it for this week hon!  Now please go check out the other ladies who are participating this week.  It's so cool to see the same picture from different perspectives.  If you would like to join us (that would be so awesome!) you can contact Lorinda and Trina @ colorplayfriday@gmail.com for all the details and next week's photo.
